Dedicated to Ohio's 44th, Ed champions community, leadership, and positive change.
Tested - An experienced elected official for 19 years.
Trusted - He has always stood on his conservative principals and done what was best for his community.
Tempered - Ed won't be pushed around in Columbus, as he will put the 44th District first.
Ed Schimmel is currently Mayor of the City of Northwood, a position he has held since 2016. He previously served on Northwood city council from 2007 to 2015, and has been a long-standing member of the Wood County Republican Party Central Committee (former Vice-Chair) and Executive Committee. In addition to elected office, he is the Past-Chairman of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG) now known as Lake Erie West Regional Council of Governments, and past president of the Eastern Maumee Bay Chamber of Commerce. Ed has also served on the local Planning Commission for more than 10 years.
Ed is an attorney with his office in Oregon, Ohio, practicing in the areas of bankruptcy, probate, estate planning, and taxation for the past 23 years. He is also a grain farmer in Wood and Ottawa Counties, where he farms 350 acres of soybeans, corn, wheat and hay on the family’s 127-year-old farm.
“Having lived most of my life either in Toledo or Northwood, I have always had a mixture of city and rural life,” said Schimmel. “It’s my hope that I can bring the prospective of a rural farmer, the business sense of an attorney, and the experience of a small-town mayor to the 44th District, because that’s what the district looks like, and that’s what we need in Columbus.”
Ed Schimmel is married to Carolyn, an accountant and tax preparer. She is also Vice President of the Northwood School Board. They have three children together: Aidan, Adrian and Ava. Aidan and Adrian are proud graduates of St. John’s Jesuit High School and currently attend Miami University with a focus in Finance and Political Science. Ava is a freshman at Northwood High School.
Ed received his education from Northwood High School (1995), The University of Toledo (B.A. in Political Science - 1999), and University of Toledo School of Law (2003).
